Start Up Citywide wins prestigious awards, parents honoured

At last night's LearnMore Awards, the glitzy event celebrating North Staffordshire's talents, the YMCA's Start Up Citywide programme stole the spotlight winning the Award for Most Inspirational Educator.

The programme was also a finalist in the Award as Most Active in the Community, in recognition of the hard work and dedication support coaches have shown across the city. Indeed, Viv Baskeyfield, Support Coach in Meir, was commended in the Community Champion for "unleasing potential" of those she works with.

YMCA's Boxing Show

YMCA Boxing Show a Smash

North Staffs YMCA’s Boxing Club first ever club show saw ten club boxers taking part in a 14 bout show… and seven walked away with winners’ trophies!  The packed out event at Bucknall Bowling Club saw opposing boxers arrive from as far afield as Dudley, Northampton, Liverpool and Derby.

The YMCA camp’s Dylan Buxton came through a very tough fight with Northampton’s Dave Wright. Already Staffordshire champion at 44kg, Dylan has an impressive record of 9 bouts with 8 wins. Another star was James Wilton who came through after an absolute toe to toe hum dinger with Abbey Hulton club's Peter Jones. James’ record now stands at 5 fought, 5 won.
